Old Stable Renovation & Extension

Somerset

This hamstone former stable had been converted to a bungalow in the 1980's. The new owners wanted to completely renovate and extend the property giving it a modern rustic feel.

Great care was taken with the proposed design to produce a scheme to be sympathetic not only to the host building but also the wider context of the conservation area and the three adjacent listed buildings.

Stages of Work: Concept to Planning

16A Architecture looked at various concept designs for the property finally settling on a one and a half storey extension clad in chard larch. The front door was moved to provide a new feature entrance with the old hamstone wing providing the sleeping accommodation and the new extension providing a vaulted kitchen / family room with a further snug and guest suite over.
